Ohio Domestic Violence Law: Ohio Civil Laws

Introduction

The main distinction between the criminal protection order and the civil protection order is that one may obtain a criminal order only after an offender is charged with the crime of domestic violence or another crime of violence under Oh. Rev. Code Sec. 2919.25. In contrast, a civil protection order may be obtained upon the commission of an act of violence, no other underlying cause of action is required.
