Nursing Home and Assisted Living Laws: Federal and Ohio: Federal Laws

Introduction

If an individual spends three days in the hospital, and then requires skilled care, Medicare will pay for the care as follows:

• First 20 days—100% coverage as long as the individual is benefiting from the skilled care;

• Next 80 days—Individual pays first $185.50/day, Medicare picks up balance if the individual is benefiting from the skilled care;

• After 100 days—Medicare pays nothing.

More information about Medicare is available at my libguide, Medicare Law.

If you are low income, Medicaid will pay for nursing home care. See my libguide, Medicaid Law: Federal and Ohio.
