Transfer on Death
From the Ohio BMV website. An individual, as the sole owner of a motor vehicle, watercraft or outboard motor may elect to designate a beneficiary or beneficiaries to an Ohio title with a signed and notarized Affidavit to Designate a Beneficiary (form BMV 3811). The beneficiary may be an individual, corporation, organization, trust or other legal entity.
A replacement title will be issued with the TOD on record.

Transfer to a Surviving Spouse
Upon the death of a married resident who owned at least one automobile at the time of death, the surviving spouse may transfer an unlimited number of vehicles valued up to $65,000 and one boat and one outboard motor, even without a TOD.

If you were the Transfer on Death Beneficiary listed on the reverse side of the title, no tax is due. When the vehicle is titled, use exemption code TD. If you received the vehicle without giving any consideration for the vehicle, no sales tax is due. When the vehicle is titled, use exemption code IH.
