Cost-Effective Electronic Legal Research: Casemaker

If you are a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, you can access Casemaker from your home or office computer.

Ohio State Bar Association membership benefits include access to Casemaker. Casemaker includes cases and statutes for 50 states and federal, but without headnotes or annotations, although you can get a list of cases that cite a statute section. Depending on the state, there may be more.  For Ohio, Casemaker has excellent coverage, including court rules amd attorney general opinions.  OSBA membership is free for law students, as well as for the first year of new admittees to the Ohio Bar.   It has an all-in-one search box, filters and folders to store research.

Casemaker has a basic citator, CaseCheck, which provides a list of cases that cite the case.  OSBA members also get CaseCheck Plus which provides signals and negative treatment at a glance.

Casemaker is owned by Lawriter, the company that puts the free version of the Ohio Revised Code and the Ohio Administrative Code on the internet.
